Additional Information
Presentations will address cultural preferences, visible disabilities, and invisible disabilities (PTSD, Autism, Mental Health) as they impact the provision of excellent nursing care.
Cultural preferences refer to the beliefs, values, norms, and practices that distinguish one group of people from another. These may include language, history, religion, and diet. Being culturally competent can improve patient interaction and reduce miscommunication. This skill fosters trust thereby enhancing the therapeutic nurse-patient relationship.
People who use an assistive device are easily identified and may find help is available when needed. People with invisible disabilities often face extra challenges when seeking healthcare as their disabilities are not immediately evident. To provide holistic care, it is important to understand the whole person, emphasizing an understanding that what may affect one person may not affect another. Inclusivity is based on respect, kindness, and providing access to those who may have physical or intellectual disabilities.
This seminar aims to promote awareness and influence behavior with strategies to overcome barriers that may limit all-inclusive patient care.
